Fear of Man is a Scam

Wednesday, July 15 2026 Proverbs 29:25

Here’s a reality: I often prioritize other people’s thoughts and opinions about me over God. Now, I am almost certain I am not alone with this mindset. Fear of man is something I struggle with almost daily. Often times, I compare myself to others, especially other Christians. Which is crazy, right?? I mean, we are all wonderfully and marvelously made in the image of God, so what’s the issue?

Well, unfortunately the enemy likes to fill our head with lies, stuff like “You will never be as good as ___ is,” or “People might like you more if you do this.” These type of thoughts can sneak up on us before we even know it. What I like to do when these thoughts come up is to first pray and ask God for the strength to not indulge in these thoughts, and then to speak scripture out loud to myself. I know this may seem silly, but it really does help! One of my favorite scriptures for this specific situation is from Proverbs.

Proverbs 29:25 (NIV) “The fear of man is a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is set securely on high.” If you don’t know what a snare is, in this scripture it refers to a snare as a trap/dangerous situation that can lead to moral or spiritual compromise. This verse talks about how listening to fear of man can compromise our relationship with God, and if we don’t trust him we can continue to be lead into fear of man. But if we trust Him, we can have safety, protection, and exaltation! When we trust in the Lord, we are elevated above the fear and threats that might otherwise ensnare us.

I know these thoughts can be heavy sometimes, but just remember that comparison is a thief of joy. Always go to God with these struggles, because He is with you through good times and bad. In Jesus holy name, Amen ❀
